Scott's comments:

I can not verify the date of these catalog pages. Because they mention standard bars, Hard Bars and Carbide Runners it's reasonable to believe a 1987-89 time frame. That's when they first came out with their Hard Bar.

Sno-Stuff page 263

Sno-Stuff page 264

2000-2001 - X-Calibar - I (04-Series), II (505-Series), III (506-Series) - Hard Weld

2002 - Present - X-Calibar - Series - 505, 506. 507 - carbide wear pads

2002 -2013 - Sno-Stuff has completely re-done and improved bar selection to better reflect industry changes. That's 12 Seasons, so far. The wording is such that one would think the carbides have been improved each year.

Scotts Comments

What I take from their frequent (5 times) back and forth changes, from Hard Weld to wear pads, is that snowmobilers were never really satisfied with either the performance or durability of their carbides. Their decision to follow most of the other manufactures is not surprising because it saves them money by reducing material and labor costs.

Distributors and most Dealers ignore durability and focus on getting snowmobilers into the shop for another set of carbides as often as possible. The downside to short lived function is more accidents and parts sold. So what, if the sled hits a tree, they sell more parts. Hopefully no one gets hurt or worse!!!
